PUBLIC POLICY AND PARTNERSHIPS
Cifas worked with partners from Government, Parliament, the Civil Service and the wider public sector on a range of private and public sector fraud prevention initiatives in 2016. By working across sectors, all partners can identify and tackle more fraud and associated financial crime.
HOW WE WORK WITH THE PUBLIC SECTOR
HOME OFFICE JOINT FRAUD TASKFORCECifas is an active partner in the Joint Fraud Taskforce, providing expertise to assist in the delivery of projects under the taskforce’s remit.
JOINT MONEY LAUNDERING AND INTELLIGENCE TASKFORCECifas works in partnership with government, regulators, the banking sector and law enforcement to combat money laundering and other financial crime as part of this National Crime Agency-led taskforce.
LONDON COUNTER FRAUD HUBCifas is a partner to the London Counter Fraud Hub, which will enable London local authorities to share fraud data for the purpose of preventing losses and identifying threats before they gain access to public funds.
LOCAL AUTHORITY PARTNERSHIPSCifas continues to work with a range of local authorities to widen its reach in this area, both through new projects and partnership working.
IMMIGRATION ACT 2016Following our successful implementation of the banking provisions of the Immigration Act 2014, Cifas has been chosen to deliver those of the Immigration Act 2016 also. Work to understand the scope of these requirements and deliver them will continue through 2017.
PUBLIC AFFAIRSOur manifestos and consultation responses (cifas.org.uk/public_affairs_policy) are designed to highlight policy ideas to prevent fraud through education, support for business and the law enforcement response. Cifas responded to six Government and parliamentary consultations in 2016 on topics including the Government’s anti-corruption plans, data sharing across Government, Police Scotland’s strategic priorities, financial education and the UK’s digital skills.
DATA ACQUISITIONCifas works with partners in the public sector to identify where data can be used to better support public policy objectives and protect our members from fraud.
PARTY CONFERENCESCifas worked with seven other partners to put on fringe event activities. The fringe events were called the ‘Fraud Fringe’ and took place at Labour, Conservative and the Scottish National Party conferences. Partners included Chartered Trading Standards Institute, Age UK, British Bankers Association, Financial Fraud Action UK, Federation of Communications Services and Connect Communications. Speakers at these events included the Policing Minister, Brandon Lewis MP, and the Scottish Justice Secretary, Michael Matheson MSP.
